Riveter How To and Maintenance

Standard Riveters

How To Use

1. Select appropriate rivet for application and drill same size hole through materials to be fastened.

2. Select rivet length based on combined thickness of materials to be fastened.

3. Select the right size nozzle piece corresponding with the rivet shank diameter.

4. Turn Riveter to horizontal position allowing the Lever Arm to drop to the fully open position OR move the arm backwards to the fully open position allowing the rivet to fully insert into the Riveter Nozzle.

5. Apply slight pressure to the Lever Arm to hold the inserted rivet in position, this enables the rivet to be inserted in the inverted position without falling out of the Riveter.

6. Push the head of the rivet through the holes in the materials, making sure the rivet head comes through both materials being fastened without being impeded and the flange of the rivet is flush with the material.
Note – We always recommend testing this first on a test piece of material until you become comfortable operating the riveter.

7. Compress the Lever Arm and Front Handle together and ensure that the Riveter is tight to the top of the rivet this will compress the rivet, repeat until you hear a popping noise from the end of the Riveter.

8. Once the rivet has been installed and the rivet mandrel separates from the rivet head move the Riveter away from the inserted rivet.

9. Release the Riveters Lever Arm while maintaining grip on the Front Handle.

10.The rivet mandrel can be ejected from the Riveter by either flicking the Riveter forward or backwards ejecting the rivet mandrel form the Riveter depending on preference.
Caution: When ejecting the mandrel ensure it is a direction away from the user and by standers.

TroubleShooting

Replacing the Jaws

1. Close tool handle completely, keeping handle closed with tape or a chain.

2. Remove retaining screw from the rear of the Riveter with wrench then remove jaw pusher and spring.

3. Clean or replace jaws, oiling outside of jaws before reassembly.

4. Reassembly is the reverse of above steps. Be sure that the bevelled end of jaw pusher fits into bevel on the jaws.

Nut Riveters

Prepare Tool For Use

1. Select the correct thread size Mandrel/Nose Piece Set that is appropriate for your application.

2. With the Nut Riveter handles in the closed position, thread the mandrel into the back of the tool using the nut in front of the adjuster.

3. Place nose piece over mandrel and screw into Nut.
Note: The nose piece is to be screwed in until the thread is flush with the end of the nose piece, the nose piece may need to be wound out or in slightly for the threaded section of the mandrel to be flush.

4. Tighten the locking nut.

Install Rivet Nut

1. With the Nut Riveter handles in the open position screw the Rivet Nut onto the end of the mandrel, the rivet nut must be as tight as possible against the nose piece.

2. Push Rivet Nut fully down into correctly sized pre-drilled hole in the work piece.

3. Squeeze the handles of the Nut Riveter together firmly to compress back side of Rivet Nut (This will force the Rivet Nut to bulge outward and clench the work piece tightly).
Note: Unlike a pop rivet, a rivet nut should not snap - and applying too much force may ruin the thread in the rivet nut or damage the mandrel.

4. Unscrew the mandrel from the installed Rivet Nut by turning the mandrel knob counter-clockwise.

TroubleShooting

Breaking mandrels is common if the Nut Rivet is not installed correctly on the mandrel. Ensure that the mandrel is set correctly to the nose piece.
